Richard W. “Ricky” Tyree Jr.


Richard W. “Ricky” Tyree Jr., 51, of Myrtle Street, died Wednesday, Feb. 10, 1999 at his residence. Born in Lynchburg, he was a son of the late Richard Wilson Tyree Sr. and Evelyn Garrett Tyree. Ricky was the Director of Operations for N.B. Handy Co. with 15 years of service, an Eagle Scout, having earned the Order of the Arrow, a member of Court Street United Methodist Church and Cedar Hills Country Club. He was a U.S. Army veteran of Vietnam, serving as a Sergeant in the 25th Infantry (Tropic Lightning) at Cu Chi during the 1967 Tet Offensive. He is survived by a son, Richard W. “Dicky” Tyree III of Lynchburg; a daughter, Jennifer Lynn Tyree; three brothers, B. Gordon Tyree and wife, Bettie, Joseph R. Tyree and wife, Eva, Stephen A. Tyree and wife, Harriette all of Lynchburg and one sister, Candace Tyree Pace and husband, Nat of Martinsville. A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Whitten Timberlake Chapel by the Rev. Frank Casper. Burial will be in Fort Hill Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. today at the funeral home and other times at 4402 Hilltop Drive, Lynchburg. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, Piedmont Division, 2250 Murrell Road or the American Cancer Society, 2216 Atherholt Road.
