In Memory

Brenda Sligh (Crawford) VIEW PROFILE

Obviously, Heaven needed her more. Brenda Sligh Crawford, born February 17, 1948, passed February 16th--one day shy of her 73rd Birthday.

Born in Lynchburg, VA as the eldest daughter of the late James and Roberta Sligh, Brenda graduated from EC Glass High School. Before graduation, she met the man of her dreams, Kenneth “Kenny” Crawford. For those who know Kenny well, there is no need to explain how Brenda kept him on his toes—even ‘til the final end. They loved each other dearly and intensely for over 55 years.

For more than 25 years, she worked for SunTrust Bank. After retiring from her position as Training Manager and Assistant Vice President, she owned and operated Off the Top Hair Salon and was a member of Hyland Heights Baptist Church.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Kenny, and children, Sheri Simms, Kellie Crawford-Sorey (David), Laurie, and Brian. Six grandchildren and two great grandchildren will miss their Nannie, Ne, and Gigi: Lauren Crawford, Hunter Simms, Landon Simms, Carson Simms, Hannah Sorey, Emma Sorey, Alexie Robertson, and Alana Robertson. Predeceased by her sister, Cheryl Ashwell (Howard), she is mourned by her brother, GT Sligh (Cheryl), and innumerable cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.

We are saddened with our loss, but have comfort in knowing she is in a better place and pain-free. After two years of battling amyloidosis and multiple myeloma, her most recent battle with COVID-19 was all her body could take. After more than two years without the ability to eat, she is enjoying some of her favorite meals with her own Mom and Dad, her sister Cheryl, and good friends like Kitty and Pres.

What will be missed most is her loving and forgiving heart, art at peacemaking, strong work ethic, and especially her unconditional love for her family, friends and the weak. We were fortunate to have her by our side for so long.

The family is thankful for the wonderful care and support provided during the past two years by Dr. John MacNeill and staff at Centra Health and Dr. Sascha Tuchman at UNC Medical Center.

The family will receive visitors at Heritage Funeral Service and Crematory, 427 Graves Mill Road on Saturday, February 20, 2021 at 3:00 p.m. A memorial service will follow at 4:00 p.m. in the chapel of Heritage Funeral Service by the Rev. Carl Weiser officiating. The funeral may be viewed on Facebook Live on the funeral home Facebook page Saturday.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Amyloidosis Foundation, 7151 N. Main Street, Suite 2, Clarkston, MI 48346, https://amyloidosis.org/
