David is preceded in death by his parents Lewis & Clara Wilks of Concord, VA. , sister, Carolyn Faye Waller of San Antonio, TX., son, Andrew “Andy” Christian Wilks, of Goode, VA and granddaughter, Emma Claire Keller, of Forest, VA.

David was born on January 30, 1948 in Newport News, VA to Lewis & Clara Wilks. He graduated from Lynchburg College in 1970 with a bachelor’s degree. David proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1970 to 1977.  David married Carolyn, his high school sweetheart in 1970.  The couple welcomed 3 children, Jon, Kelly & Andy, into their home and David set about teaching them about Christian values and work ethic. His children remember him as the best story teller.  He would turn every story funny and enjoyable.  The children remember his love for the outdoors, to include trout fishing & taking his Brittany spaniels out quail hunting. They remember their father always being there for them and anyone who was in need.

David worked in many areas, to include business, accounting & banking.  David’s true love was his abundant carpentry skills.  He loved taking someone’s dreams and turning them into a beautiful reality. David was a kind generous man who often put his own needs on the back burner in order for everyone else to flourish.  David loved the Peaks of Otter.  David loved loading the family up in the 1981 Ford Bronco and head up to those beautiful mountains.  He was at complete peace gazing at those mountains.  David was an active and dedicated member of the Brookhill Wesleyan Church.  God & the church was David’s other passion, proven by his long time and dedication as a Sunday school teacher.

Visitation will be held on July 5, 2019 Brookhill Wesleyan Church, located 1043 Cifax Rd. Forest, Va., from 11 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. with the funeral immediately following at 1:00 p.m.  After the Graveside services at Va. Memorial Garden Park cemetery, located at 11490 Forest Rd Forest, VA.
