Elizabeth C. Harvey, of 1425 Poinsett Drive, Chapel Hill, N.C., died
peacefully at her residence surrounded by friends and family on Tuesday,
June 9, 2009, after a short battle with cancer.
Ms. Harvey was born in Lynchburg on Oct. 21, 1947, to Edith Darneal Allen
Meadows and the late Willey Coffey. Ms. Harvey moved to North Carolina
in 1983 and began her professional career with the Chapel Hill Carrboro
City School System in 1985, ultimately serving as the administrative
assistant to the principal of East Chapel Hill High School until her untimely
passing.
Ms. Harvey was a faithful member of Christ United Methodist Church,
located in Chapel Hill, N.C., since its opening and was fondly remembered
by the church members and staff as the "flower lady." Prior to moving to
North Carolina, Ms. Harvey was a member of Fairview United Methodist
Church in Lynchburg.
Ms. Harvey was preceded in death by her stepfather, Mr. Percy Meadows;
her biological father, Mr. Willey Coffey; her aunt, Mrs. Ruby Coffey; and her
second son, Jeffrey Todd Harvey. She is survived by her mother; sons,
Michael and Timothy Harvey; and her granddaughter, Morgan Harvey.
The memorial service of death and resurrection for Ms. Harvey will be held
at 11 a.m. Sunday, June 27, 2009, at Fairview United Methodist Church,
located at 3041 Campbell Ave. in Lynchburg, with a reception being held at
Vinny's Restaurant at 7001 Timberlake Road in Lynchburg immediately
after the conclusion of the service.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, friends may make a contribution
to The Elizabeth C. Harvey Scholarship Fund at East Chapel Hill High
School, 500 Weaver Dairy Road, Chapel Hill, NC, 27514, Attention: Marsha
Cosgrove.
