Milton Henry Schmitt

APRIL 16, 1946 – NOVEMBER 24, 2023

Milton Henry Schmitt, 77, of Forest, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving family on Friday, November 24, 2023. He leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and cherished memories.

He shared 57 years of marriage with his high school sweetheart, Kara, whom he adored and cherished throughout their enduring union. Milton was a loving father to three sons: Michael Schmitt (Lisa), Mark Schmitt (Allison), and Kevin Schmitt (Kristi). He also considered Leslie Hudson a beloved daughter.

His life was enriched by the presence of eight adoring grandchildren: Morgan, Kaley, Zachary, Elizabeth, Alexandra, David, Corey, and Kelsey Schmitt. Milton's love for his family knew no bounds, and he cherished every moment spent with each of them.

Milton will be remembered for his unwavering dedication to his family, his warm heart, and his sense of humor that brightened the lives of those around him. His legacy of love and kindness will continue to resonate in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him.

He proudly served his country in the United States Navy, embodying a deep sense of duty and honor. Milton began his distinguished career, spanning over 40 years, with C & P Telephone Company, Bell Atlantic, and Verizon, demonstrating dedication and expertise in his profession.

Milton had a passion for mentoring young athletes and was highly involved in youth sports. For over 12 years, he devoted his time to coaching the Brookville Comets, leaving a lasting impact on the lives of many. He also coached little league basketball and baseball while his sons were actively engaged in sports, fostering a spirit of teamwork and sportsmanship.

Beyond his professional and coaching endeavors, Milton had a zest for life. His interests ranged from a love of Hot Rods to an enduring admiration for music. He found immense joy in the companionship of his beloved dogs, who were an integral part of his life and brought him endless happiness.

Milton's dedication to his family, his commitment to community through coaching, and his vibrant passions will forever be remembered by those whose lives he touched.

A graveside service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 29, 2023 at Fort Hill Memorial Park with the Rev. Tom Donovan officiating. Military honors will be provided by the American Legion Post 16.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the National Center for Healthy Veterans, www.healthyveterans.org, a cause reflective of Milton's passions and values.

Milton Henry Schmitt's presence will be deeply missed, but his spirit will live on eternally in the hearts of those he touched.
